It is with very deep regret that we note the passing of our brother Knight, Douglas A. Morin, who left this life on Saturday, August 19, 2023. Brother Doug was 80 years of age and was a Fourth-Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, having joined the order on January 23, 2010. Doug was a key, Five Star member of K of C Council 866 and a close friend of mine and several others in the Order of Knights. He is already dearly missed. Doug held several responsible positions in the Council and was the District Deputy for a term. He always brought a bottle of Mead to the Social Meetings and was always a faithful in his attendance except when his body objected.
Doug, known as Papa to family members, was born on April 30, 1943, on the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation in Hays, Montana, to Michael and Marie Morin. Doug retired from the U.S. Navy in 1976 and graduated from Slippery Rock University in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science degree in public administration. He served in the “brown-water navy” in Vietnam and was a proud Seabee. Doug lived a life of service in various capacities including chief of police of Chinook, Mont., and public administrator in Allegheny County, Pa. Doug had a passion for serving and was involved in a number of service organizations and charities especially in the Knights of Columbus, Disabled American Veterans and St. Vincent De Paul, and he was a founding member of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 427. He was a past commander of American Legion Post 117.
Doug was an avid golfer and a passionate follower of Jesus Christ. He was known to readily share his faith with everyone he came across to spread the message of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and let them know that God loved them deeply. Doug was generous with his time, talent and money and would help anyone in need.
Doug is survived by his wife of 60 years, Eileen (Leah) M. Morin; sons, Douglas W. (Denise) Morin, of Butler, Clifford E. (Denise) Morin, of Chiefland, Fla., Shawn D. (Tanya) Morin, of Butler, and James D. (Natalie) Morin, of Butler; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Marie; brothers, Marvin, Ronald and Oscar; and grandchild, Caleb.
Friends and family will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Boylan Funeral Home, 856 Evans City Road, Renfrew. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at All Saints Parish, St. Conrad Roman Catholic Church, 125 Buttercup Road, Butler, with Father John Baver officiating. Doug will be inurned privately at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord….and let the perpetual light shine upon him…..may he rest in peace…..may his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace……
